How to Make a RCA to 3.5mm Cable
Helpful hint for those who want to make the switch from 2RCA cables (red + white) or 3 RCA jack inputs on your home theater receiver/ amplifier combination into a single cable that can carry both signals with zero loss in quality.
Want to play your favorite music from an iPod or mp3 player on TV?
With this easy cable, you can do just that!
It's very simple and only costs a few dollars.
You'll need the 3.5 mm audio plug for connecting it with any devices like amps but if those are not available then there is also another option where both RCA plugs will work too (though they're typically used by speakers).
First, get the materials
To make this cord all you need is two RCA cables (These are the yellow, white and red wires. You can get them for under $2). 3 mm audio plug from an old pair of headphones or earbuds that have been cut off with wire strippers. Solder each end if needed then trim down excess lengths using scissors.
Finally, strip about 6 inches worth of insulation off both ends.
Second, produce it
The circuit diagram will show you how to make your own headphones.
There are four wires coming from the 3.5 mm audio plug: two grounds and one right channel, or left for those who use them in reverse order!
The colors of insulation on these particular frames were green/white while there was no copper wire near either cable's shielding (the paper).
