The Waterproof Rating Of The Cable

According to IEC 60529 and QB/T 1898 standards, the waterproofness of connecting cables can be divided into the following grades:

IPX-0 has no waterproof protection, and does not have any waterproof protection requirements for the product.

IPX-1 requirements: Under normal operating conditions, the cable can provide waterproof protection equivalent to 3-5 mm/min of rainfall for 10 minutes without water leakage.

IPX-2 requirements: The level is basically the same as IPX-1, but it can pass the waterproof test of 15 degrees upturned in all directions without water leakage.

IPX-3 requirements: 60 degree angle splash water protection, provides 10 liters/second flow rate for 2-5 minutes and 80-100n/m pressure waterproof protection against water leakage.

IPX-4 requirements: The level is basically the same as IPX-3, but it can provide all-round and angular splash and waterproof protection against water leakage.

IPX-5 requirements: Waterproof protection from all directions and angles, providing 12.5 liters/sec flow rate for 2-3 minutes and 30n/m pressure waterproof protection against water leakage.

IPX-6 requirements: Waterproof protection against large waves, can last 2-3 minutes against a depth of 3 meters underwater, flow rate of 100 liters/min, pressure of 100n/m is watertight.

IPX-7 requirements: 1 meter underwater can be soaked for 30 minutes without leakage.

IPX-8 requirements: completely waterproof, can be used in water for a long time without leakage.

IP69K requirements: able to withstand the hot vapor washout test as defined in EN60529 and DIN40050-9.

This provides protection against a water pressure of 100 bar (1450psi) and a temperature of 80ºC. Pressure is applied directly to the sensor in 30-degree increments (0, 30, 60 and 90 degrees) for 30 seconds at each angle for a total of 120 seconds (2 minutes), preventing the ingress of water.

For different waterproof levels, international and domestic standards have corresponding waterproof test methods and specifications, such as GB 4208-2008/IEC 60529-2001 "Enclosure Protection Level (IP Code)" standard requirements. Nowadays, most of the cable manufacturers are still in the initial stage of understanding the waterproof of the cable, but a few professional manufacturers of waterproof cable have made corresponding standards and applications for the waterproof level of the cable.
